“the way to create art is to burn and destroy
ordinary concepts and to substitute them
with new truths that run down from the top of the head
and out of the heart”
The People Zoo was founded in 2015 when Kelly Hallmark was a student at The Second City in Hollywood. Kelly met Ashtyn Karachristos in class and approached her about starting their own production company. The People Zoo was born and, with the help of their Second City classmates, they produced several comedy sketch shorts that can be seen on their YouTube channel. That year they also wrote and produced a live show at The Second City and it was a hit!
Alison Yates came into the picture in 2016 when she ended up in Grad Revue with Kelly and Ashtyn at The Second City. From that moment on, a female production powerhouse was formed!
In January of 2017, Alison wrote “Vellum” and Kelly jumped on the chance to direct it. After months of pre-production the team shot “Vellum” in July of 2017. After the thrill of producing “Vellum” the team realized they could really make quality projects together. A few months later our Director of Photography from “Vellum”, Peyton Skelton, had ideas for a short film called “Thirst” that he had written. We co-produced that film at the end of November on all mobile devices, iPhone 7 and DJI Mavic, for an AT&T festival. The moment the deadline for that festival past, Alison’s script for “Accidental Actress” was selected to participate in Canon’s 48 Shootout Film Festival and The People Zoo geared up to make another film that first week of December. We are currently in pre-production for two web series and a feature film and in post for two projects. Be sure to follow us on social media to stay up to date with all of our upcoming projects and festival dates.
